Forming in 2008, Sound of Sirens have spent the last 2 years building up their fabulous reputation in Leeds, playing as many gigs as possible and building up a great fan base on the circuit. In 2011, after a further few tour dates in Leeds, the band announced that they will be going their separate ways. After getting such huge praise from music critics in and around Leeds, and gaining many local fans, it seems a shame that the band have decided to call it a day.
But, before they depart they will release a single on 6th June called ‘Unexpected’ with all the profits from the single going to Cancer Research UK, a charity close to the band members’ hearts. A good way to end an era whilst also raising money for charity. The single is in typical ‘Sound of Sirens’ mode. It consists of laid back indie tones: quite a melodic song with smooth harmonious vocals. Sounding a bit similar to Embrace, Doherty’s vocals are soft, layering great lyrics onto tight guitar riffs, allowing for the perfect indie song.
If you haven’t heard about Sound of Sirens until now, you’ve certainly missed out. You can still listen to their songs on their MySpace and Facebook accounts however.
The band are playing a variety of last gigs, but the last two in Leeds are June the 25th at Escobar and July the 23rd at Milo. You can buy their charity single at their gigs or through their Facebook account. The band seem to be going out on a high. Let’s hope there’s more to come from its band members in the future!
Lyndsey Howarth.
