Artist: We Are Augustines
Video: Book Of James

We Are Augustines are Brooklyn-based band formed by ex-Pela members Billy McCarthy and Eric Sanderson (with Rob Allen on drums). Much of the material on their debut album Rise Ye Sunken Ships (to be released March 5th 2012) documents the most traumatic period of lead vocalist/guitarist McCarthy’s life in which he lost both his schizophrenic mother and his brother, James, to suicide. “Book of James” is one of several songs recorded with producer Dave Newfeld (Broken Social Scene),and is a gripping eulogy for this once-resilient spirit who succumbed to the pressures bearing down on him from both within and without.

“Book Of James”, released as an MP3 single and 7”vinyl on November 7th, is Billy McCarthy’s attempt to humanize the homeless and mentally ill. “Everybody deserves a proper eulogy; this is mine for my brother James,” explains Billy. “As far as I'm concerned our society at large would rather not think about the topic of homelessness and mental illness. Unfortunately, people who have lived through it are forced to find a place to store it internally. This song is written from that place.”

Artist: Atmosphere
Song: Just For Show

Here's the fantastic single 'Just For Show' from Atmosphere's new album 'The Family Sign' which is due for release on June 20th 2011.

In the three years since Atmosphere last dropped a full length record on the world, they've been far from stagnant, staying at the top of their game in every respect. In 2011, Atmosphere is taking that feeling one step farther with this long awaited LP, ‘The Family Sign’, a tribute to their true extended family: their fans, their loved ones, and each other.

‘The Family Sign’ was written early in 2010, and as they sat down to record the record, the Family grew a few times over. In the studio, Slug (raps) and Ant (beats) were joined by long time touring musicians Nate "The Guitar Man" Collis (guitar) and Erick Anderson (keys). At home, 2010 also saw the addition of two real-life children to the Atmosphere family, further inspiring the writing process and the concept, and title, of the album.

With a winter tour of the UK coming towards the end of this year, it’s the perfect time to jump aboard the train and enjoy the journey that Minnesota’s favourite sons take you on!

Artist: Sparrow and the Workshop
Video: Snakes in The Grass

Sparrow and the Workshop will be releasing their new album ‘Spitting Daggers’ on May 23rd through Distiller Records. The album was produced and mixed at the new recording studio, The Distillery, by Leo Abrahams (Brian Eno / Sam Amidon). ‘Snakes in the Grass’ will be the first single and is also released on May 23rd; the album will be available on CD and download.

The band comprises of Belfast born, Chicago-raised Jill O’Sullivan (vocals/guitar/violin), Welshman Nick Packer (guitar/bass) and Scotsman Gregor Donaldson (drums/vocals.) Jill's voice has developed into a powerhouse of flexibility, allowing her to soar from keening Sandy Denny-esque tones to sensual peaks you're more likely to expect from PJ Harvey. With Gregor providing vocal harmonies alongside drumming and percussion duties, and Nick playing guitar and bass and an instrument combining the two affectionately referred to as the 'basstard', they have matured into a truly astonishing outfit.

Make sure you check out Sparrow and The Workshop as they tour the UK this May/June. We'll be there to review them!

Artist: Slaves to Gravity
Song: Silence Now

Slaves To Gravity are set to play several live dates in June and July, supporting Papa Roac. These shows are hot on the heels of the release of the band’s second album ‘UNDERWATEROUTERSPACE’, which is available in a special expanded package.

Tommy describes the new album as “A big step forward in every department, really.” It’s an album that’s seen them grow as artists and as a band. “We pushed ourselves much harder as writers, performers and musicians,” he adds. “We really wanted to raise our game – perhaps before we settled on things, this time we were much harder on ourselves.”

He’s also keen to praise the impact of the album’s heavyweight producer, Bob Marlette (Black Sabbath, Marilyn Manson, Airbourne). “He encouraged us to have the confidence to go out on a limb creatively,” says Tommy. “We’ve tried things we wouldn’t have had the guts to do before. We’ve managed to take our influences and really build on top of them"

Now, they’re looking enthusiastically towards the future. Checl out the video of their single 'Silence Now' right here!
