Alternative band from Leeds, ‘Scams’, return with their new release ‘Helicopter Parents’ which I checked out with much anticipation. The video in black and white almost immediately reminds me of the video ‘Helicopter’ by Bloc Party. Almost with a similar theme at first, the video starts with the same build up as Bloc Party’s video, introducing the characters in slide shots on the screen. After the intro it proves this video is nothing like Bloc Party and we see the band members with florescent face paint giving their own edge to the video. Starting off with a built-up beat it then bursts into an alternative indie track. Although the band have only been going a few years, it seems they already have a big following with the track ‘Helicopter Parents’ having over 10,000 listens on their Myspace account. The song to me seems to include a mixture of genres, mainly because of the dance intro turning into an indie/alt song. The singer has harmonic addictive lyrics, and although having a similar style to some indie bands out there, his voice is different. He puts a different style to this song and you can tell the band is really in it for the music,
