When was RSS set up and how did the creation come about? What’s the whole ethos of its making?
"The seed for RSS was planted almost a year back now, whereas the initial band members formed in early 2010. We just wanted to make music that was collaborative, modern but also original and unique in the way it sounds."
How many of you are there?
"There are four of us. Me- Maticmouth, The Reverend of course, Laura of Rev and the Makers and very recently Jimmy Welsh (Ocelot)."
How would you best describe its genre of music?
"Haha, we named it Indie-Step as we believe that is exactly what it sounds like! I come from a hip-hop, dubstep, garage, grime background in terms of the music I've made previously, and Jon as you know is from the Indie world, we found a common ground where we can meet and have a musical romance!!"

Do you think Britain’s got talent?
"I definitely think Britain's got Talent but it's not on 'Britain's got Talent'. It's inner-city where the talent is, the kid who spends hours in his bedroom making beats or recording in home made studios. The kids who stay connected to the Internet on blogging, networking sites etc, these are the people to check for!"
Who are your main musical influences?
"My musical influences have come in stages, as a child we naturally grow up listening to our parents' music, which, for me, were things like Madness, The Specials, UB40 in the early 80's, and Diana Ross, as these were the people my mother classed as her favourite artists. But my mother's fave genre of music was and still is Reggae, so I also heard a lot of that growing up! My personal musical influences started with a short addiction to jungle and drum and bass, but as an early teen I found hip hop and was blown away by it! The period of hip hop I fell in love with was the early to mid 90's artists such as Wu Tang Clan, Nas, Redman, Snoop Dogg, Biggie etc. Naturally I moved on to a lot of UK hip hop like Rodney P, Klashnekoff, Chester P. At this present moment in time I'm listening to the early stuff from groups like The Clash, not necessarily for the sound of the music, more for the message and mindstate behind it."
What would you choose – a bath or a shower? Why?
"Shower in the morning, because it wakes you up and you get ready quicker! I have a bath at night simply because I'm chiiillliiiiiiiin' haha!"
Where can people catch you – are you touring as RSS and /or do you perform as Matic Mouth solo? Are you still playing regularly at The Plug?
"RSS are currently preparing for The Boxfreshers Tour (Boxfresh Clothing) in Sept around all the unis. I haven't performed solo in a while but I do occasionally perform with a collective from Sheffield called Northern Alliance, search NATV3000 on YouTube."
What’s your take on the current music scene and how it is evolving? Do you think technology/media has a big part to play?
"I love the current UK music scene, all the modern electronic urban music is incredible, and yeah i deffo think technology has played a part in it in terms of creating the music and being more experimental with sound. There's a wicked buzz in the air right now, everyone seems to be working hard and working together! Every now and again some crap slips through though, but what ya gonna do? "
What do you think new trends are going to be or “the next big thing”?
"The new trend will be Indie-Step and the next big thing will be RSS, KABOOM!!"
Rate Cheryl Cole
"Does Cheryl Cole rate RSS??"
What has been your favourite gig to date and why?
"Favourite gig?? Oooh that's a hard one, maybe Glastonbury in the Magic Bubble Tent that popped off. Secret Garden Party and Ayia Napa were pretty crazy too! The more energy the crowd gives the crazier I get too, I love every gig!"
What advice would you give to up and coming musicians in the area?
"Don't be afraid to experiment and push your music out there, keep working and creating too - always keep writing, producing or whatever it is you do. Let yourself be known you exist by networking and don't be afraid to collaborate. Also, try to listen to other music genres rather than the one you always do, expand your musical knowledge. "
Jon Mcclure is very politically-minded and has been heavily involved in campaigns such as Instigate Debate – is this something that you are passionate about also? What’s your impression of our government – how did you feel about the recent general election? You say you are into “poli-tricks”…what do you mean by this?
"Nope not really, I'm too free spirited to live by the rubbish they spew out, honestly let me ask when there last actually was a government we liked..........I'm waiting......exactly!! I vote green because it's the only thing we as a people have in common, the Earth! Poli-tricks is just a word I made up for politics, I'm a wordsmith I can't help these things!"
Where do you want to take RSS – fame and fortune or something for the people?
"I want RSS to become, well, create a meeting ground for different people, the same way Don Letts brought Punks and Rastas together!"
Any last words of wisdom?
"Im a Love Dealer so I'm just going to say love each other and be happy"
