obLONG have been gaining acclaim across Sheffield and beyond since their formation. Their music has taken the public by storm, with a Pulp guitarist claiming that their demo got him as excited as the first time he heard Arctic Monkeys.
Distorted guitars and sturdy drum beats open the first song on obLONG’s I Am The Noise EP. ‘You Should Be Mine’ parades the distorted riffs that the band has conquered with. The vocals escalate over the instrumentation, echoing with a sometimes eerie effect. ‘I Me Me’ continues the ghostlike theme: the guitar riffs leaving the listeners with a sense of unease not unreminiscent of that from Scooby Doo episodes of old. The vocals seem to writhe the words through the speakers, echoing through the chorus to embed themselves in the minds of those who hear it. ‘In Remission’ opens with misshapen guitar riffs and vocals, proving that simplicity can indeed be very effective.

The lone voice resounds strongly through the instruments, to a powerful effect. Ill at ease guitar riffs draw the song and EP to a close, leaving the listeners pleasantly spellbound.
Making a name for themselves in their home town, obLONG are starting to carve a path out into the wider world. If I Am The Noise is anything to go by, this band is one we’ll all be hearing the name of soon.
